Tips To Lose Weight

How many times has someone asked you for some tips to lose weight? Just about everyone that is trying to lose weight is always looking for some good tips that will help them get rid of those extra pounds. Sometimes we are looking for tips that will make the whole process a bit easier, although this may not be the best route to take. One has to realize that it takes time and self discipline to lose weight. It takes the courage to make some changes in your life style.

But where does on start? There is so much information available on weight loss that it can confuse anyone who is not sure what to do. There is no wonder that is such a heart felt cry. There are so many diets offering fast weight loss and sometimes conflicting dietary advice, that it is hard to know fact from fiction. Does the Banana Diet really work? Is the Atkins diet really as dangerous as some people say? What is the truth of the matter?

One of the best tips to lose weight you can ever use is to take the time to research any plan that you are considering. Get the facts on what you are about to do. For me, I have found that after reading much of the information available it would certainly appear that the glycemic index, or GI, can be helpful to those wanting to learn how to lose weight. Basically it ranks carbohydrates according to their effect on glucose levels in the blood.

Weight loss can be a very scientific issue , but most people really don’t want to get into the science of things…they just want to lose weight. However, a little bit of knowledge did not hurt anyone. Carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion have a high GI rating. This is important because foods with a high GI rating raise blood sugar levels and throws your metabolism off kilter. The result is weight gain. Foods with a low GI rating keep a person’s blood sugar at an even level, making it easier to lose weight. Eating foods with a low GI can also lower your risk of developing diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

We all would like to lose those extra pounds quickly, but this is not always the best thing to do. But, if you are open for some tips to lose weight and if you want to know how to it some what quickly, then need to know which foods have a low GI rating then the following chart offers some basic guidelines

* Avoid processed foods.
* Choose breads that are high in fiber and contain oats, whole wheat, seeds, and nuts.
* Fresh fruits and vegetables will offer a low GI alternative
* Avoid foods with empty calories like soda, candy, and chips.
* Eat more legumes, such as beans and lentils.
* Avoid sugary cereals and all other sugar laden foods.

Remember many tips to lose weight have no serious scientific support. This does not mean those tips did not work for someone else, but they may not work for you. For anyone who wants to know how to lose weight a good rule of thumb is to avoid all foods that have a high level of sugar. Reading food labels can help with this a lot and will take out most of the guesswork. Also, try to use sugar substitutes in your cooking, but only use stevia or xylitol as they will not affect your blood sugar levels. All other synthetic sweeteners mimic sugar and confuse the body and can actually cause you to gain weight.

Easy Weight Loss?

Ya right, I’m sure we have all seen and heard about the easy weight loss programs advertised on the internet etc. I believe with most programs out there, you will lose some weight in the process initially. However, its the long term health benefits that are important. The last thing we want is the yo-yo effect. Lose some weight, gain some weight and before long, you are back where you started plus a few extra pounds. There is no such thing as a perfect and easy weight loss system, but many good ones do exist and it will depend on the user as to how effective any system will ultimately be. Being overweight or obese harms lives immensely as it lowers self-esteem, increases health risks and reduces most of a person’s physical abilities.

Start by deciding how much weight you need to lose and how much time you can devote to regular exercise each day. Always look for balance in any weight loss program. You must not forget that the success of any easy weight loss method will be as a result of the person using it as a correct attitude is paramount. Your primary reason for losing weight must be clear whether it is too improve your looks or for health reasons; once you know this, then you must decide.

Some health tips to consider prior to starting. No matter what weight loss program you choose, you need to take into consideration the following factors; what, how and when you eat, your behavior and the activity level you are planning to have. Weight loss should not be achieved at a rapid rate so do not expect to lose thirty pounds each and every month because you will not achieve this and may create physical problems that often occur when weight is lost quickly.

Keep things simple, as it is easier to consider that one pound lost per week is realistically the equivalent to around 3,500 calories which breaks down to losing 500 calories a day, every day whether through dieting, exercise or both. Too many people are consuming large amounts of unhealthy food because they enjoy eating but there is no need to force-feed yourself just because you enjoy particular foodstuffs.

Many people actually gain weight because of stress. Additionally, people start eating when they feel insecure or depressed. Bad eating habits are a real issue that can cause diabetes, cancer, various heart problems and high blood pressure. One of the first steps in easy weight loss is assessing why the person is actually eating the amount they do as this can be the key to long term weight management.

Studies have shown that people who have started weight loss programs with a light-hearted determination are more likely to accomplish the looked-for results. The one thing that has shown to be true no matter what you do in life is that being positive about something is more likely to make it happen. Losing weight is known to provide us with more energy and allows us to carry out tasks that those extra pounds do not permit, which can all lead to improved self confidence.

The main problem as I see it, too many easy weight loss programs are far from it as they actually test the person using them. However, the pain barrier does not last long and once through it, the whole system becomes more pleasant. Take one day at time for any program. Look for a program that you can safely lose 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Weight Loss Ideas

Can weight loss be fun? What kind of question is that? Well, believe it or not, the process of losing weight can be fun. The journey itself may be difficult but there are ways that you can actually enjoy whatever plan you have to lose weight. I think most of us know how dieting and exercising can become very, very monotonous. In fact, it can get so boring that we tend to quit or give up. Once we do that, we then usually eat more because we are upset with ourselves for quitting, and put on even more weight!

What are some tricks that we can use to make the goal of weight loss fun and enjoyable? One thing to do is find a friend or a number of friends to join you. I’m sure we all have some friends that want to have some weight loss also. Approach them and ask if they would like to join you. You’ll be surprised at how willing they will be to share this common goal with you. Why ask a friend? Encouragement! It’s as simple as that. You will be an encouragement to each other. When you feel like giving up or quitting you will have someone to be there for moral support. It is much more difficult to quit when you have someone involved and working towards the same end.

Another thing that can make weight loss fun is to add a little financial reward to the equation. This is excellent for a group all working towards weight loss. It adds a little friendly competition to the whole process. And some studies suggest that money is one of the best motivators for anyone that wants to lose weight. One way to use the money idea is to choose a set number of weeks or months that you will work towards the weight loss. Everyone puts up a few dollars and the winner or top three losers will divide the money between them. You can have weekly weigh-ins and each week the biggest loser gets some money. You can set it up in any fashion you want, but people will like the friendly competition.

Another way to make your trip down weight loss lane is to become more adventurous in the foods you eat. Eating the same foods each day as you try to lose weight can become almost discouraging. Look for different recipes that will make your meals and snacks more interesting. And you don’t have to go shopping for exotic foods. Use what you usually have but make some simple additions and different combinations. Keeping your food interesting is a very psychological aspect of losing weight. Of course it has to be food that you will enjoy. There is no sense forcing down food or a meal that just doesn’t appeal to your taste buds. Food variety will help prevent you from getting bored and quitting.

You will need to exercise if you want to get in shape. Sorry, there are no short cuts to a healthy lifestyle. It can be simple exercises, but you really should include that as an overall strategy. Finally, try to use a number of different exercise routines. The same exercise routine is one sure way to give up and quit. It does not take long to get tired of the same exercise day after day. So look at this part of your plan carefully. Even if it is just changing the route you walk each day it will be a help. If you go to a gym, try a different routine every second or third day.

It will keep you active and less inclined to get bored. Weight loss can be lots of fun. But for most of us , fun or not, we need to lose weight for health reasons. So if you need to lose then why not add a few things to make it fun?

Staying On Track with Weight Loss Goals

Establishing weight loss goals can be fun and exhilarating. Looking ahead at what you hope your body will look and feel like in the future. However, keeping the goals and staying on course with them until completion can often be like making New Year’s resolutions and keeping them, or breaking them. Many people give up very quickly, while others filter out all along the way. Until the end results are that an average of about 10 percent make it successfully through to the end. So let’s take a look at what helps those 10 percent become successful.

Self Help

A positive attitude works wonders during a weight loss regiment. And one of the best ways to get and keep a positive mental attitude is to get help for your self. Don’t leave this to chance. Because you may hear inspiring music, speakers on the radio and show on television, but the odds are that most content will not be focused on what you need.

Check out inspirational and motivational books, audio cassettes, DVDs, videos, magazines and Weight Loss Articles. Keep a folder handy for articles that you print for reminders, plus articles you find online full of helpful tips, stories and advice.

Get help online… For motivational and inspirational speakers alone, there are more than 1 million listings show up on Google™. So you can narrow your search with keyword phrases like “weight loss motivational speaker,” “international weight loss inspirational speaker” and “keynote speaker,” inserting “weight loss” into any of them. Then visit websites of speakers who are listed, sign up for their free ezines, and read their articles, printing out ones you like for your folder for handy reference.

Don’t Change Horses

A popular saying that started with Abraham Lincoln in one of his speeches, holds true for keeping your original weight loss goals and staying on track, “Don’t change horses midstream.” In other words, don’t change your basic plan of attack. Stick with your original weight loss goals that you took time to research and establish. You may need to modify them some, but don’t toss them aside.

Look at your progress and commit to finish what you started. Take advantage of all the extra weight loss articles out there to help you like motivational and inspirational music and other audio files like cassettes and MP3 to encourage you. Get some online workout buddies and support, too, via health and fitness forums and social networking sites like MySpace.

Keeping your weight loss goals and staying on track may not necessarily be easy. But it can be successful with help, support, a good attitude and weight loss program work ethic.
