LOSE WEIGHT

Are you one of those people who want to, or as is the case for many, need to lose weight? For most people losing weight is one of the most difficult things they have ever tried to achieve. For others it is no big deal. Wouldn’t it be great to look at weight loss as no big deal? Sadly though it is a big deal, and in many cases it can be such a big deal that ones life depends upon losing weight.

With so many different weight loss programs available people can get confused as to the direction they should take. How you are you going to lose weight or are you? Many people need to lose weight, but it seems people are just not interested in doing it. It seems to have become more the style now to be overweight. Having meat on your bones seems to be in. My goal was not to be skinny but to be a comfortable weight where I felt good, and looked good in my clothes. The look of Twiggy back in the days gone by was not my taste.

If you are serious about losing some of those extra pounds that you have accumulated over the years, the marketplace is wide open with diets, equipment and programs that all target weight loss. Choose ones that you feel comfortable with. If you are going to purchase speciality foods to help you lose weight, be sure that its taste will agree with you. There are a number of companies with shakes that are delicious. I tried one that tasted so good I use it as a treat instead of to lose weight. They are usually a meal replacement. That cuts out a lot of calories for the day.

Reducing your calorie intake is only part of the plan when it comes to losing weight. After you choose which diet you will be going on to lose weight, it would be good to also think of what exercise program you would like to get involved in. Without exercise, to lose weight would probably not produce the figure you want to have. You need to strengthen the muscle to keep the skin from sagging. If money is not a problem you can join a gym and get a trainer to help you. If you can’t afford that luxury, don’t get discouraged. Many people have lost weight without the help of either. I like the Classical Stretch program that I have found on TV. It tightens and lengthens muscles, making you firm. In addition to those benefits, you can also gain some height. I gained a half inch in height and some have gained an inch. Stretching exercises also improves balance which is beneficial.

Regardless of the method you decide to use to lose weight, it must be part of a plan. If you fail to have a plan you can plan to fail. Having a goal to lose weight and firm up is a tremendous benefit to anyone. You will look better and feel better as well. It is a good idea to set goals along the way and find some way to reward you. I don’t recommend using food. For a reward after you are down to the weight you want to get to, reward yourself with something you have been wanting in the line of clothes, whether it is a bikini or a new pair of trousers. You deserve something for all you have accomplished. Celebrate the occasion and hold the line. You are a winner. And every time you look in the mirror or step on the scales you will realize your accomplishment.

Weight Loss According to Body Type?

Healthy weight loss should be the goal for anyone who has to lose some of those unwanted pounds. There are so many different plans, diets and schemes that many people really don’t know which way to turn when it comes to weight loss, let alone healthy weight loss. However, information is certainly available if one will take the time to search it out.

We all know that people lose or gain weight at different rates. We are all unique individuals and just as we have different talents and different attitudes so we also have different body types. Your body type is a scientific classification of your overall body shape, and and it is determined by a combination of certain physical characteristics. Your genes determine your body type therefore, your body shape will develop from birth to adulthood. Body types can never be changed and no matter what type you possess, you can still achieve weight loss relatively quickly with the correct choices of food and tactics for weight loss or weight control.

I’m sure that many, if not most, people don’t even consider their body type as they embark on a weight loss plan. There are three basic body types for male and female are: Endomorph, Ectomorph and Mesomorph. Endomorphs: The naturally big boned person characterized with a round face, a soft and flabby body in general, wide hips, bigger waist, slow metabolism and high number of fat cells. This type usually finds weight loss a constant struggle. Ectomorphs: The skinny person with a linear appearance, small muscles, ultra fast metabolism, low body fat, narrow shoulders, hips and waist. Doesn’t usually have to worry about weight loss. Mesomorphs: The naturally muscular person with wide shoulders, small waist, athletic build, low body fat percentage with an increase metabolism.

How important is knowing our body type in planning a healthy weight loss plan? Doe sit really play a significant role? Regardless of our body type, if we want to achieve weight loss we need to create a negative energy balance or a calorie deficit. The number of calories we cut from our intake needs to be sufficient enough in order to see some results fairly quickly. So if we begin a new diet by cutting our calorie intake by about 500 per day we will lose weight over the course of a week or two. However just cutting calories is now not deemed to be a sensible way to approach weight loss.

Anyone who had tried to lose weight certainly knows the role of the mighty calorie. So what happens to our bodies when we choose to cut calories? During a calorie deficit our bodies still require the same amount of energy so they start to use up energy stores to make up for this 500 calorie deficit. However, as our bodies inevitably use up extra proteins for energy AND to maintain normal protein synthesis, we end up with a net loss of total protein. This results in a gradual loss of lean muscle, and this is the start of a lowered metabolism and consequently a slower weight loss.

When we lose weight, sometimes what we see on the outside does not reflect what is taking place on the inside. Muscle loss may not be obvious when looking in the mirror because the body will take it from other, less priority areas and not just from our skeletal muscles. The stomach is a classic area where protein is broken down for use, as there’s less need for a large stomach capacity because we have lowered our food intake. Ever noticed how we can no longer eat those big meals we once used to eat before dieting? It would appear therefore that although you may need to cut down on the amount of food you it is vitally important you don’t drastically cut your calories as you may be doing your body and your weight loss more harm than good. Take the time to learn about healthy weight loss.

Healthy Weight Loss

It would be so great if we could lose weight when ever we wanted to. Some people may even tell you that they can do such a thing, but is it a healthy weight loss? Two things we have to keep in mind when losing weight is keep it healthy and keep it off! Many people tend to get on the weight loss yo-yo, losing and gaining, losing and gaining. The problem with this is that we usually gain more weight than we started with as we go up and down. The most difficult change in our lives is to change the way we eat and what we eat. Our eating habits got us into the excess weight situation and it is the only thing that will get us out of it.

It is amazing how people will forgo their health in order to lose weight as fast as possible. Healthy weight loss has to be the main focus of any weight loss plan. Anything less can and will only result in more problems. And if more problems arise we tend to get discouraged with our attempts at losing weight and tend to give up. It is a lot easier to sit back and do nothing than struggle with our weight. Sometimes the path of least resistance is the path we follow.

But as individuals we have to find the inner strength to continue. We have to overcome our discouragement and continue to struggle but with a positive attitude. If we are determined and focused we can lose those extra pounds. And changing our eating habits is the one thing that will lead us to success. It doesn’t matter how much exercising you do, if you fail to make the necessary changes in your eating habits you will never lose the weight.

I have compiled a list of do’s and don’t that you may find helpful in your weight loss efforts. Healthy Weight Loss is basically trying to keep these things in perspective. The problem is that there are so many people out there offering their opinion on what we should and shouldn’t do to lose weight and many of them who “think” they know, are actually giving you false information. Here is my list of well researched healthy weight loss tips, I hope you find them helpful.

DON’T…

DON’T forget that although calories count, it is no use counting calories and not taking sensible account of the need to eat healthy weight reducing foods.

Don’t reduce you calories too low as your body will think it is in starvation mode and reduce your metabolism.

DON’T go it alone. Get support from others.

DON’T be fooled by the latest fad diet. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

DON’T drink your calories – eat them. Solid food provides greater satisfaction and provides the body with what it needs to function optimally.

DON’T let others tell you what’s right for you. You need to lose weight for yourself.

DON’T set unrealistic goals. You should expect to lose about 1-2 pounds per week. That is realistic.

DON’T get distracted. Losing weight takes time.

DO………

· DO monitor your progress. Weighing yourself once a week and taking your measurements. Measurements can often be a better indicator of progress

· DO choose to eat healthy, wholesome foods from all of the food groups. Get the essential nutrients you need, whilst making appropriate choices for weight loss.

· DO exercise. Anything more than what you’re doing now is a plus, but a personally tailored exercise regime will show results much quicker.

· DO eat a protein rich breakfast every day.

· DO eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, to ensure there is plenty of fibre in your diet.

· DO learn positive coping skills so that you don’t turn to food for comfort.

· DO drink at least six 8oz.glasses of water every day.

· DO eat enough food to satisfy you. Starvation is not the way forward

· DO benefit from the experience of others who have successfully lost weight and maintained their weight loss

Success can be yours in the weight loss arena. Stay focused and committed. And when you have one of those bad days where you eat something you shouldn’t have, don’t quit. Take it as a weak moment and start again the next day. You will never succeed if you give up! Healthy weight loss requires making life changes. Make those changes and you will be glad you did.

Lose Weight with the GI Diet

For those searching for ways to lose weight, the task can be very confusing. There are so many different weight loss plans and diets that if one does not know what they are looking for, they simply could be just wasting their time. Without taking the time to do some research you could be buying into a plan that is ineffective or may even be harmful to your body. One of the most important pieces of advice you could ever take is to visit your doctor and so some research on your own as you try to decide which weight loss plan is for you.

If your doctor is staying current with the weight loss industry, he may direct you to this particular weight loss strategy. One of the most popular ways to lose weight is to choose foods according to their Glycemic Load (GL). All food has a glycemic index (GI) which is a qualitative measure that tells you whether the carbohydrate it contains is fast or slow releasing. The Glycemic Load tells you more about the effect that food will have on your weight, i.e. whether or not it will cause you to put on weight.

There are certainly more ways than one to lose weight. And what works for one person may not work for another. If we are to believe that the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to by establishing your blood sugar and insulin response to food, then we need to pay attention to the ways to achieve this. Keeping the blood sugar balanced depends not only on what we eat but also when we eat it. Firstly we need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in our diets. We also need choose foods/carbohydrates with a low glycemic-load (GL), combine carbohydrates with protein and cut back on stimulants and stress.
To lose weight on this diet it is important to make sure that you eat no more than 40 GL a day and at main meals you should eat low GL carbohydrates with protein rich foods.

We all know that foods lose some of their nutrients when they are cooked and as a result it ultimately alters somewhat their effect on the body. How a food is processed, prepared or cooked is a key element in the GL of a food and therefore the effect it will have on your blood sugar. If you eat spaghetti if example your blood sugar levels and your insulin levels will rise quite gently until the body produces insulin and then they drop. However if you eat white bread they will rise twice as high and then drops down much lower. It is the peaks that damage your arteries making them less responsive to insulin and the troughs that leave you tired and sleepy and craving carbohydrates and or stimulants. It is strange that two foods made of roughly the same flour can have such different effects on the body. This is probably due to the fact that bread is cooked for longer than spaghetti. Needless to say eating white bread will do nothing to help you to lose weight.

The GI diet may seem a bit complicated but if you take the time to learn and understand the concept it may be the plan you have been looking for. The Glycemic Index the levels to which different foods raise your blood sugar compared with the effect of pure glucose. The more complex the carbohydrate, the lower the GI, as it will take longer for the sugar to be broken down and released into the blood stream . For example apples and oats are slow releasing and raisins and puffed rice cereal are fast releasing. So the foods you choose to help you to lose weight should be from the Low Glycemic Index foods

One “problem” with the GI diet is that you have to use your common sense with some choices. For example, just the GI score as a guide you will find that certain foods such as carrots and chocolate have similar scores and clearly it would be foolish to choose the chocolate over the carrots if you want to avoid the blood sugar highs and lows and ultimately lose weight. The Glycemic Load (GL) is a far better way of predicting the right foods to eat as it is an indicator of what a given serving of food will do to your blood sugar. Remember that balancing your blood sugar and insulin is the only sure way to lose weight and keep it off.

Don’t Be Desperate to Lose Weight Quickly: Lose Weight with MUFA’s

For everyone who needs to lose weight, the desire is to lose it as fast as possible. There is nothing wrong with this as long as it is done healthy. However some people are desperate to lose weight quickly. And once this occurs any attempt to lose weight in a healthy manner is at risk. It is impossible to lose and maintain a healthy weight loss “overnight”. Approach your weight loss plan with patience and you will be more likely to achieve your goals.

For any of us who have looked for that magic weight loss plan, we know how many are out there. If you are sifting your way through the myriad of diets that all sound like the answer to your weight loss prayers, I sympathies. Especially for those who are desperate to lose weight quickly. There is a minefield of information out there, and no foolproof way of knowing what works and what doesn’t. More importantly there is no way of knowing if the diet is one that enables you to lose weight and then keep it off. It is always a good idea to find out if the diet has a scientific basis for its claims and whether there have been any significant trials done to ascertain if people have been able to lose weight effectively.

The people who have reached that point where they are desperate to lose weight quickly are open to any suggestion that they may come across. Did you know that you can lose weight by eating a diet high in a particular type of fat. This fat is called a MUFA – monounsaturated fatty acid. MUFA’s are the good fats you find in food like peanuts, olive oil and avocados.

There are many researchers working to discover more efficient ways to lose weight. I’m sure that there are some scientists hoping to find that weight loss method for those who are desperate to lose weight quickly. MUFA’s aren’t the answer, but research has demonstrated that MUFA’s help to seek out and erase your belly fat. They all also have an additional health benefit in that they help to lower your cholesterol levels in your blood and lower your risk of heart disease and strokes. Other studies have shown that MUFA’s can also help fight diabetes. Keep your artery walls smooth and untarnished and control your blood sugar levels. Not only do MUFA’s target your belly fat, but experts believe they prevent and even eliminate central fat distribution in your body which will ultimately help you to lose weight.

If you have ever been desperate to lose weight quickly, you are well aware that a number of problems are created. When you are trying to lose weight one of the most difficult things about the diet may be that it leaves you feeling unsatisfied and hungry. However, the higher fat content provided by the MUFA’s will have the effect of satisfying your appetite for longer. As a result you will be less likely to want to snack and also be less likely to have sugar cravings.

We all know how important maintaining a healthy weight is to our overall health. Being overweight causes a myriad of health problems that can drastically affect one’s lifestyle. So in addition to your diet high in MUFA’s it is also advisable to add some exercise to your dietary regime to encourage your body to lose weight more effectively.. With as little as 10 minute exercise the brain begins to produce beta endorphins, chemicals that calm you down, regulate your stress hormones and make you feel good. A recent study at the Ivy League university demonstrated that the secretion of beta-endorphins can actually offset the belly bloating effects of cortisol and insulin. One important thing to remember: don’t be desperate to lose weight quickly. It will happen but it take time, so give yourself that time.

Weight Loss Is Very Important If You Have Diabetes

author Posted by: Maurice Mcchesney on date Aug 26th, 2008 | filed Filed under: weight loss

Weight Loss Is Very Important If You Have Diabetes

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, one of the most important things that you can do is maintain a weight loss regiment. Being overweight can affect your blood sugar levels dramatically since fat cells can become resistant to insulin, causing your blood sugar levels to rise. Losing just 10-20 pounds through a weight loss program can make a huge impact on your diabetes. In fact, getting down to your recommended weight can get you off of diabetic medicine and allow you to live a healthier lifestyle.

You should never begin a weight loss diet on your own if you are a diabetic. Talk with your doctor and a diabetic educator. Set up an appointment to meet with a registered dietitian. Losing weight on your own without the guidance of your doctor can be dangerous to a diabetic. Your diabetic medicines will probably need to be adjusted as you lose weight, so it is important to have your doctor involved.

Start by cutting back by 500 calories per day. This is safe for most diabetics and will promote weight loss. The ideal goal is cut back on carbohydrates, proteins and fats equally. Your diet should consist of 50%-55% carbohydrates, 30% fats and 10%-15% proteins.

Carbohydrates are very important in a diabetic diet. They have the biggest impact on blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates are broken down into sugars very early in the digestion process. It is important to get a refresher course on carbohydrates and how to measure them from the dietitian.

Watch your blood sugar levels carefully when following a weight loss plan. You are at an increased risk for becoming hypoglycemic, especially if you are exercising and losing weight but haven’t adjusted your diabetic medications. If you start to feel nauseated, sweating or have trouble concentrating, have your blood sugar level checked immediately. It is a good idea to always carry fruit juices or other snacks with you.

Different types of exercise affect your blood sugar levels in different ways. The aerobic exercises such as, running or anything that gets your heart rate up, will drop your blood sugar immediately. More strenuous exercise or weight lifting can drop your blood sugar hours later. It is important to plan accordingly for the type of exercising that you are doing. Over time this will not be a problem as you lose weight and are able to reduce your diabetic medication or maybe stop it altogether.

Do plenty of research on the best diabetic weight loss plans. Talk with your doctor and keep him updated frequently of your progress. Make sure that you follow a weight loss plan that is approved by your dietitian or diabetic educator. Weight loss in never easy and it is a special challenge for someone with diabetes. However, the benefits of losing weight far outweigh the alternative of living the rest of your life with diabetes.

Again, you should never start any exercise program or weight loss plan before consulting your doctor. The wrong weight loss program can sometimes do more bad than good
