Acid vs. Alkaline Diet

Acid vs. alkaline diet: being alkaline is very important because the human blood ph level needs to be more alkaline then acidic .

Much of the  food we eat is very acidic. I received a question regarding coffee and meat specifically.

First, let me go back and explain the ph level of human blood. The ph level range is from 0 to 14 with 7 right in the middle. Any number above 7 is alkaline, getting more so as it gets to 14. On the acidic side, the lower the number, the more acidic it is.

The human blood ph level is 7.35 to 7.45, decidedly on the alkaline side of the equation. When there happens to be too much acid inside the food, the body must destroy it to defend itself. It does this by taking calcium from the bones.

Therefore an acidic food like cow’s milk in truth deprives the body of calcium because of the neutralizing that occurs and the calcium in the milk cannot actually be processed by the body.

Meat and coffee are both acidic , roughly the 3.0 ph level. If you are going to indulge yourself in acidic foods at times, you need to offset it with lots of fresh greens, the most alkaline foods there are.

There are many factors in the Hippocrates Health Institute program that blend to help you into accelerated healing. Eating a very alkaline diet and staying away from the acidic foods that we may be tempted to eat is an important part of why it works so well.

A truly great question has prompted me to add that those of you who are interested in gaining an understanding of the science behind these statements and learning a lot more about why eating animal protein weakens the bones: you definitely need to read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. On page 205 he discusses the studies done to support this.

But the entire book, The China Study, is the product of some decades of studies done in China that showed beyond all doubt, at least for me and many others, that meat and dairy are very unhealthy for our bodies.

Water  accounts for about 60 percent of your over all weight . Water is hard at work for you every day, flushing toxins out of your systems .  It transports nutrition to your cells and supplies a moist environment for throat, ear and nose tissues. Your body is constantly losing supply of water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements . For your body to work properly , you must replenish its water level by taking in foods and beverages that will supply you with enough water. Lack of water can result in dehydration and even mild dehydration can cause you to feel weak and listless . There are many health products built around water like the Vitalizer Plus.

So, what’s the correct amount of water to drink? We know that water is critical to healthy living , but needs vary by individual and are affected by many factors , that include your health, activity level and your location .  It’s an easy question lacking an easy answer . Overall , doctors will say 8 or 9 cups but if you consume sufficient fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce around 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or pale yellow urine every day, your fluid intake is probably adequate .

You may think to change your fluid intake based on how active you are, the climate you live in, your health status , and if you’re a mother-to-be or breast-feeding.  When you sweat , you will use a greater volume of water.  Forced air heat might also cause your skin to lose moisture during wintertime. Further, altitudes above 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) may cause increased urination and more rapid breathing , which expend more of your fluid reserves .
Fever, vomiting or diarrhea, quickly deplete your water reserves . When this happens , you should drink more water.  You can also check into Kangen Water, ionized water and hexagonal water designed to mimic the natural effect of water rapidly flowing over rocks.

Women who are expecting or breast-feeding need to drink more fluids to stay hydrated . Nursing requires a high fluid intake . The Institute of Medicine recommends that pregnant women drink about 10 cups or 2.3 liters of fluids daily and women who breast-feed consume 3.1 liters (about 13 cups) of fluids a day. If you have been drinking distilled water, check out products like a Vitalizer Plus to put mineral content back into your fluids.

Don’t hold off until you’re thirsty to get a drink . By then you’re already a little dehydrated. And , as you age you are not as able to notice dehydration and feel thirsty . To ward off dehydration and make sure your body has the fluidsit needs,  make water your go-to drink . Try drinking one glass of water with each meal and one glass between every meal and you’re off to better hydration and as well , always hydrate with pure filtered water before, during and after exercise.
