Weight Loss

In anyones attempt to maintain effective weight loss, exercise and diet are two important parts of the process. They go hand in hand. One without the other means a less effective effort to control and maintain weight. And as we all know both can be very difficult. However, if you need to lose weight, one of the first steps is recognizing that you actually need to. If you somehow deny this fact then any effort at weight lose will be futile.

The weight loss industry is big business. And you do not have to look far to see that this is so. Each day we are constantly seeing advertisements about exercise equipment and programs, diets and more diets and countless ways to loss that extra weight. I am sure you have sat through or at least part way through, one of those info-mercials on television selling exercise equipment or the latest blender where you can make all the fat free meals you want.

There is no question that the weight loss industry is very, very big business. But do people really need all the latest exercise gadgets or the latest diet plan in order to lose those unwanted pounds? The answer to that question can only be answered by you because only you know what is needed for yourself. My answer to that question is no, we I do not need all those things. Can they help? Of course they may help you lose weight but they are not a necessity. What one really needs is to accept their weight problem and then have the will-power to do something about it. No one needs to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to lose weight.

I really did not accept my weight problem until the doctor told me that I was a walking heart attack waiting to happen. I decided then to take my weight loss seriously. What did my doctor tell me to do? Two things. Change my diet and exercise. Simple as that and not costly. I did join a local gym but at one dollar a day it was quite affordable. I found it easier than taking a walk each day because that is all I basically do at the gym is use the walking equipment. I like to rationalize by saying I paid to walk so I better do it. If you have the will-power to walk each day then you save about thirty dollars a month. And you get the same benefits.

The diet part of the equation was much more difficult for me. People always assumed that my big belly was really a “beer gut”. But I’m a non-drinker. My problem was sweets and fried foods. Not a good combination. When I look back I think I was addicted to chocolate! And I always ate more than I needed to satisfy myself.

Of course the psychologists in the room will say that I have some underlying problems that lead to the overeating. Heck, maybe I do, or did, but now I feel much better with the weight loss. It is surprising how your outlook on things changes when you feel better about yourself. I guess it is that self-image thing. Regardless, we can all lose weight once we accept the fact that we need to. It then becomes a matter of will-power.
