Weight Loss Programs

If you are trying to lose weight and fancy trying one of the many professional weight loss programs available, make sure you do plenty of research. These programs vary greatly and some may be more suitable for you than others may. Some programs are best for people with only a few pounds to lose, while others help with more drastic weight loss.
Weight Loss Programs – Point System
Programs that use a points system include Weight Watchers. This works on the basis that you have a certain amount of points per day, and you cannot go over this amount; each food and drink is allocated a set number of points. An advantage of this system is that it is easy to follow and does not completely cut out treats such as chocolate and dessert. Provided the program promotes healthy eating, exercise and a positive attitude towards food and body image, they can be very successful. After you have reached your target, it should not be difficult to incorporate what you have learned into a long-term eating plan without using points.
Weight Loss Programs – Prepackaged Foods
An alternative type of diet program is that which uses specially created prepackaged foods, such as shakes, soups and bars, which form the bulk of your diet. Generally, you drink a shake for breakfast and for lunch and then a healthy meal for dinner. These are a good option for those who have busy, hectic lives and do not have time to plan meals or calorie count. On the down side, they can be expensive, around $40 for a week’s supply of shakes and bars–and some people find it hard to revert to a normal way of eating after they have lost the weight, meaning it creeps back on and they are back to where they started.
Blood Groups
A modern dieting craze followed by many celebrities is the Blood Group diet, which creates diet plans according to your specific blood group. Those who have successfully lost weight on this diet claim that it also makes them feel more energized and is effective in changing their attitudes towards food and health in general. Each of the four blood groups–O, A, B and AB–has a list of foods that should and should not be eaten, in order to facilitate optimum weight loss. For example, the program recommends that blood group A dieters follow a vegetarian diet and avoid dairy products. This program can work well if you take its basic principles as a long-term lifestyle change, but some people find it too restrictive.
Whatever weight loss program appeals to you make sure you seek the advice of your doctor first. He will be able to give professional advice on what program may be best for you, as well as confirming how much weight you should be trying to lose.
